In the fall of 2015, I piloted the Google CS First program as an after school club offering at Ferndale Middle School as part of the pilot program from the state of Michigan Film and Digital Media Office. There were no coding elective options available for middle school students at this time. Here is an article in the Woodward Talk previewing the Google CS First club for Ferndale Middle School students. The club received positive feedback from students and with the support of the administration was created as a pilot elective choice for the spring semester in 2016. The coding elective course is now part of the course offerings at Ferndale Middle School and continues to have growing enrollment. This has also led to a career pathway at the high school being developed focused on coding and technology with course creation in the 2017-2018 school year in mobile application development.
